TRIAL AND ERROR: PART DEUX

We are now just days away from Lola’s honeymoon shower and after the chocolate cup fiasco, we are on a mission to find a substitute that we can actually conquer. Today we are trying our hand at the infamous chocolate balloon cups

Had to leave the balloon blowing to The Mister unless I wanted my unborn child to come out and give us a hand as well.

So we melted the chocolate and dipped our balloons. We let them cool and then we carefully popped the balloons and if you fancy a little rubber or latex in your chocolate cup, then we surely nailed it.

A return to the freezer for an additional ten minutes and some expert plying off of the latex and I’d say this time, we actually did nail it.

A few lessons learned:

1) This trick doesn’t work with all balloons, especially cheap water balloons from The Dollar Tree. Our issue was that we were going for a bite size shape, so we couldn’t use the standard grade helium balloon. If you still want to try working with water balloons, the trick is to ensure that you give the balloons enough time to set before popping them. Keep them in the freezer some additional time, then the balloon will come off easier.

2) You need to double dip at minimum. Some tutorials out there make it look so easy - only dipping the balloon once. But the reality is your cup will come out too thin and possibly with a hole at the bottom. You will need to dip it once, let it stand and re-dip a second and possibly third time. Also be ready to use up a lot of chocolate. We will probably have to save this idea for another, smaller event because Lord knows I don’t part with Ghirardelli easily.
